Roanoke, Va. — PixelOptics, a Roanoke-based developer of electronic focusing eyeglasses, has named Brett Craig as its new president and CEO. He succeeds Ronald Blum, who will become chief visionary officer while maintaining his role as chairman. Craig previously served as the president and COO of photochromic lens company Transitions Optical. “Ron’s vision and leadership were critical elements to bring [the company's technology] from concept to market. Moving forward, Brett’s expertise will be invaluable for the success of the company,” said board member Gary Kurtzman, managing director in the Life Sciences Group at Safeguard Scientifics. PixelOptics’ emPower eyeglasses feature transparent liquid crystal layers in each lens that electronically focus when needed, with no moving parts. The company last April raised $35 million in a round of equity funding, led by Safeguard Scientifics.
